History

Life is sacred and precious in the eyes of God, but in the eyes of the world, nothing seemed to be sacred. The number of teenage pregnancies in our country was staggering with one out of every three pregnancies ending in termination, when over five years ago, a young woman, Jennifer Bartlett, had a vision. Her vision was to bring to Flagler County a place where young women facing unplanned or unwanted pregnancies would have a safe place to come to find help. Jennifer was moved to find others who would stand with her as Christians, to offer hope and support, regardless of the
circumstances under which the child was conceived. At the time of her vision, there were many crisis pregnancy centers throughout the country, but there was no such ministry in Flagler County.

Her vision was brought into reality by the help of many people. Very instrumental were Pastors Bruce and Marlene Laurent of Church on the Rock, who not only had a heart for this ministry but were instrumental in guiding her. They allowed the ministry to be under their umbrella for a place to meet in the early stages, even prior to having a steering committee formed. They continue to partner with Alpha Pregnancy Center through prayer support, volunteer help, financial support and material aid.

Alpha Pregnancy Center would not have opened its doors without the help of the Laurents and others such as Pastors Don and Paula Wilburn of Palm Coast Praise, who helped by being advisors as well as encouraging their congregation to pray for and support the ministry. Help was also received from Rev. and Mrs. Gaffney of First Baptist Church of Palm Coast and Rev. and Mrs. Don Burgess of Hammock First Baptist. There were so many others who have been very instrumental in helping Alpha get off the ground I'm sure if I started to mention names, that some would be missed.
